SXS RIFLE. Cal. 36 (right) x 16 Ga (left). NSN. Nelson Lewis operated 1843-1888 out of Troy, NY marking percussion guns (American Gunsmiths by Sellers). Bbls. 28.5". Concave rib has island mounted German silver blade front sight & elevator rear sight. Bottom rib holds 2 pipes & hardwood brass tipped ramrod. Back action locks; top tang has hole for sight. Wedge fastened walnut stock w/ cheekpiece. German silver furniture includes thimble, wedge escutcheons, spear finial triggerguard, elk's head on cheekpiece, circular patch box, crescent buttplate & toeplate. CONDITION: barrels have brown patina appearance with work marker's mark, spots of corrosion & cleaned pitting. Locks show varnish & spots of corrosion. Wood has extra varnish along with cracks around rear tip of triggerguard finial, dings & marks. Lock appears mechanically fine. Bores show oxidation & strong rifling. (01-28297/MD). ANTIQUE. $500-700.
