RED PAINT. Late 18th, early 19th century, possibly Massachusetts. Probably birch, the rectangular top with hinged leaves having serpentine edge projecting above the apron fitted with a single drawer, raised on tapering slender legs. The leaves with butterfly supports. The drawer with original handcut bail handle. The table was originally painted in its entirety to make it difficult to differentiate which hardwood was used; birch or cherry, we have opted for birch. The table also appears to have been used at some time as a worktable resulting in darkening and in some cases staining of the top. SIZE: 27" h x 36" l x 18" w (closed). Leaves: 36" x 9 1/2". CONDITION: original painted surface remains. One leg has a stress fracture at juncture of drawer, reinforced with finish nails. Fair to good overall. (02-17843/TG). $300-500.
