HILLARD. Cal. 44. S# 1916. Bbl. 25 1/2". Brass blade front sight with hood underneath. Tang-mounted u-notch rear sight. Bbl. has "DH Hillard Conish, NH" marking. Per American Gunsmiths by Frank M. Sellers, David Hall Hilliard (1805-1877) operated in Cornish, New Hampshire, 1842-1877, primarily making Underhammer guns. Finger curl trigger guard. Walnut stock with crescent buttplate, patchbox, and left side cheekpiece. Harwood ramrod with brass tip secured by three pipes. CONDITION: stock has an oil finish with scattered dings and handling wear. Metal has a mostly dull gray patina with scattered oxidation, dings, and pitting. Action appears to function when hand-cycled. Bore shows scattered oxidation and pitting with evident rifling. (01-25949/MJC). ANTIQUE. $250-350.
