CONTRACT RIFLE-MUSKET. Cal. 58. NSN. 1 of approx. 11,495 mfg. by the Trenton Locomotive and Machine Company of Trenton, New Jersey for the state of New Jersey & the Union. Standard configuration with 40" bbl., 3 band walnut musket stock & tulip tipped ramrod. Top barrel tang shows two different partially discernable stamps; 1 appears to be "PORTE". Top of comb & wrist stamped "F"; regimental or rack marking. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: New Jersey marked socket bayonet w/ sheath & frog. CONDITION: cleaned metal shows reacquiring patina throughout along with prior pitting & marks. Sanded & refinished wood shows spliced wood repair in front of bolster along with deep marks right side buttstock along with scattered cracks. Balance of shiny bore has very good rifling w/ residue near muzzle. (01-28951/MD). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
