SIX SHOOTER SAA REVOLVER. Cal. 44/40. S# 52096. Bbl. 7 1/2" with Hartford address, "44-40 WCF" on left, and blade sight. 6-shot fluted cyl. Black powder frame. Oval type ejector rod head. Nickel finish. 1-piece ivory grip, right panel has hand marked initials "W W". 50% coverage of vine type foliate engraving with punch dot backgrounds. It was common practice for New York wholesale houses to send guns for embellishment to the same New York engravers that did the factory work for Colt. This fine revolver was likely engraved at the shop of L. D. Nimschke. Frame, bbl., cyl., and grip straps have matching numbers. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter stating "Serial Number: 52096/ Caliber: .44/40/ Barrel Length: Not Listed/ Finish: Blue/ Type of Stocks: Not Listed/ Shipped To: Hartley & Graham/ Address: New York, New York/ Date of Shipment: January 17, 1880/ Number of Same Type/ Guns in Shipment: 50/ Remarks: As noted above, the records do not provide information with regard to the barrel length of subject revolver or the type of stocks. However, this is usually an indication of a 7 1/2" barrel length and walnut stocks as these were considered standard issue for that time period.". CONDITION: bbl., cyl., and ejector housing retain 75% nickel. Grip straps retain 30% nickel. Frame has largely faded to a dull gray appearance. Small spots of very light pitting are scattered throughout the revolver. Grips have a mild aged yellow appearance showing grain checks and handling marks.
