SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH U.S.G.I. MARKED CUSTOM PERIOD HOLSTER. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 5231b. Bbl. 4 7/8". P.38 semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Walther in 1945. Left side of the slide is marked "P.38", followed by the S#, as well as Walther's mfg. code and the 2-digit year of mfg. "ac 45". Right side of slide is marked with a single Eagle/359 acceptance proof, followed by an eagle firing proof. Underside of bbl. block is marked "fnh", indicating that this is 1 of the 3,500 bbls. supplied by Bohmische Waffenfabriken Prague's Strakonice plant in 1945. Frame and bbl. exhibit a blue finish, with the bbl. exhibiting a dull blue finish. Small parts including the trigger, takedown lever, 3-groove hammer, safety lever, firing pin cover, and rear sight exhibit a phosphate finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved brown pressed resin grips. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, slide, bbl., and locking block. MAGS: 1 8-rd. mag. marked with an Eagle/WaA706 above "jvd" on the spine. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: custom period brown leather holster marked "Schreier 32922724" on the rear. Research indicates that the holster is marked to David Schreier of Hudson, NJ, who enlisted (branch unknown) on May 17th of 1943 and is listed as a Technician 3rd Grade. CONDITION: excellent, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original arsenal applied blue and phosphate finishes, exhibiting some spots of light wear and thinning, as well as some scattered superficial handling marks overall. Phosphate finish on the firing pin cover shows some discoloration, but is otherwise fine. Mirror bore, exhibiting a few scattered spots of what appears to be pinprick oxidation, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good, showing some scattered marks from handling and storage. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting areas of age related cracking and crazing overall, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. A very nice example of a likely U.S.G.I. bring back Walther P.38 pistol. (24-6441/MLW). CURIO. 1,000-1,500.
