LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 3663a. Bbl. 4". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM in 1913 for the Imperial German military. The bbl. extension is marked "1913" over the chamber, with DWM arsenal proofs marked on the right. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Right side of the frame exhibits a small circular incision above a small arsenal proof (also present on the hold-open latch), indicating that this example was at one time returned to the arsenal and retrofitted with a hold-open device. Metal components exhibit what appears to be a period reapplied blue finish (most likely applied at the arsenal at the time of alteration), with some small parts exhibiting either a straw or nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard blade front sight, with V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the grips. MAGS: 1 non-matching wood bottom 8-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brown leather holster. Interior of closure flap is stamped "FRANZCOBAU/ BERLIN/ 1913", "1108", as well as with an illegible boxed ink stamp. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their period arsenal blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light to mild wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, some scattered superficial handling marks, as well as some scattered small spots of dark surface oxidation overall. Frame exhibits areas of what appears to be light pitting beneath the bluing on the grip straps and trigger guard. Strawed parts show areas of wear and thinning, with worn areas exhibiting scattered spots of surface oxidation and age related discoloration. Grip screws show some wear and thinning that shows through to gray patina, with some spots of surface oxidation. Bright bore, exhibiting some light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good, showing some mild smoothing, as well as some scattered nicks and marks to the diamonds. Wood mag. bottom is broken, with the broken forward section remaining in the mag. body. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting wear, scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, as well as some light to mild age related cracking and crazing. A very attractive example of a 1913 production P.08 Luger mfg. by DWM. (24-6892/MLW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
