SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER & NUMBERED MAGAZINE. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 5442e. Bbl. 4 7/8". P.38 semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Walther during the first year of mass production (1941). The left side of the slide is marked "P.38", followed by Walther's mfg. code and the 2-digit year of mfg. "ac/ 41", and the S#, with Walther Eagle/359 proofs and an eagle firing proof marked on the right. Slide stop, trigger, hammer, firing pin cover, and trigger bar exhibit a Walther Eagle/359 proof. Metal components exhibit an attractive early war high polish blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved pressed resin grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with U-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, slide, bbl., and locking block. MAGS: 1 non-matching 8-rd. (S# 995j). UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black leather holster marked "hjg/ 1941" (Kimnach & Brunn, Kaiserslautern) and with an Eagle/WaA416 proof on the rear. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining the majority of their original high polish blue finish, exhibiting some areas of light to mild wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, a few scattered superficial handling marks, as well as a few scattered spots of of light surface oxidation overall. Near mirror bore, exhibiting some light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Slide safety lever decocker functions appropriately when cycled by hand. Grips are very good overall, showing some superficial marks from handling and storage. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting some wear, scattered handling marks, and areas of light to mild age related cracking and crazing overall. (24-6888/MLW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
