SHOT PERCUSSION SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 50. S# 20609. Bbl. 20". 2nd Model Maynard single shot percussion breechloading carbine mfg. by Massachusetts Arms. Co. of Chicopee Falls, MA. The left side of the frame is marked "EDWARD MAYNARD/ PATENTEE./ MAY 27.1851./ DEC.6.1859.", with Massachusetts Arms Co.'s manufacturer's information marked on the right. Left side of buttstock exhibits two boxed inspector cartouches at the wrist. Frame and lever exhibit a case color hardened finish, with the hammer and bbl. being blued. Frame is mounted with a 1 piece smooth wood buttstock. Blade front sight with 2 leaf rear sight marked "1", "3", and "5". Left side of frame with saddle ring. CONDITION: frame and lever retain good amounts of their original factory case color hardened finish, exhibiting wear and thinning overall that shows through to a pleasant grayish/brown patina, with some spots and areas of darker discoloration, particularly on the lever. Bbl. retains the vast majority of its original finish, exhibiting some spots of light wear and thinning that show through to a pleasing brown patina, as well as some small spots of mild surface oxidation. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Stock exhibits some scattered marks and a few minor impressions from storage and handling, but is otherwise very good overall. A very nice example of a Massachusetts Arms Co. 2nd Model Maynard carbine. (01-24266/MLW). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
