SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 419396. Bbl. 5 1/2". C96 Broomhandle semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser for commercial sales during World War I. Top flat of the faceted breech is marked with Mauser's mfg. information, with the S# on the left quarter flat, a double crown "U" proof on the left flat, and an additional crowned proof on the right flat. Right side of the frame is marked with Mauser's mfg. information. Frame and bbl./bbl. extension exhibit a rust blue finish, with some smaller components, including the rear sight tangent, bolt stop, safety lever, and trigger, exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, floorplate, lock frame, sear, locking block, New Safety hammer, bbl./bbl. extension, bolt, bolt stop, as well as the grips. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some scattered, concentrated areas of wear and thinning, with a few small spots of mild pitting overall. Bright bore, exhibiting a few small spots of mild pitting towards the muzzle and retaining well-defined rifling throughout. Grips exhibit some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: the collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (23-5813/MLW).
