REVOLVER WITH DISPLAY CASE. Cal. 45. S# S166171. Bbl. 6 1/2". Model 1955 double action revolver, mfg. by Smith & Wesson, circa. 1956-1957. Left side of the bbl. is marked "SMITH & WESSON", with "45 CAL. MODEL 1955" marked on the right. Right side of the frame is marked with the S&W trademark logo, followed by S&W's mfg. information. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the trigger and hammer, which exhibit a case color hardened finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece S&W medallion checkered wood grips. Ramped blade front sight, with adj. square notch rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the frame, cyl., ejector, and bbl. Matching assembly #s are present on the frame and cyl. crane. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: wood display case, containing four moon clips, disassembly tool, as well as a cleaning rod. CONDITION: metal components retain bountiful amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting light to mild edge wear, some superficial handling marks, as well as a few minute spots of surface oxidation. Right side of the muzzle exhibits a small, concentrated area of wear that shows through to gray patina. Trigger and hammer retain strong case color hardening. Mirror bore, exhibiting a few small spots of pitting/oxidation towards the muzzle while retaining well-defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good, showing a few scattered marks and minor impressions overall. Case shows some light to mild exterior wear from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable.
