WINCHESTER MODEL 1894 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30 WCF. S# 53681. Bbl. 26". Early Winchester Model 1894 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1896. Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Winchester's 2-line address, with the cal. designation marked towards the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL 1894/ -WINCHESTER-" above patent information. Metal components exhibit a blue finish. Custom hand checkered wood forearm and apparent bird's eye maple straight grip stock with steel buttplate. Stock features a shallow cheekpiece on the left side, with the toeline featuring a relief carved laying dog. Checkering on forearm and stock is mostly smooth, appearing to have been mostly filled with lacquer. Contemporary aftermarket high profile brass beaded blade front sight and V-notch rear sight. Upper receiver tang is drilled and tapped with x2 additional holes (1 with screw, 1 without), likely for a previously mounted tang sight. CONDITION: metal components have largely faded to gray patina, exhibiting scattered spots and patches of light surface oxidation and pitting. Receiver exhibits striations from prior cleaning. Dark pitted bore, retaining trace rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows some scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sound. (01-29999/MLW). ANTIQUE. $600-900.
