G. E. LEWIS & SONS. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 13769. (1916) Dovetailed bbls. measure 30" & are fitted w/ slightly swamped game rib w/ dolls head extension engraved "G. E. LEWIS & SONS 32 & 33 LOWER LOVEDAY ST. BIRMINGHAM. 13769." Bbl. flats are stamped w/ Birmingham nitro proofs for 2 1/2" chambers. Rnd. bodied top lever action is fitted w/ peninsula back spring rebounding locks having short rnd. bodied serpentine hammers. Action & locks are engraved w/ about 40% coverage shaded scroll w/in geometric borders. Blued trigger guard is engraved w/ monogram "DEC" on bow. S# is on tang. Lightly marbled & figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 7/8" over black leather covered pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip & a vacant silver oval is on toeline. Matching splinter forend w/ inlet steel tip, has friction release. Bore diameters: left - .726, right - .727. Bore restriction: left - .008 (IC), right - .004 (IC). Minimum wall thickness: left - .032, right - .029. DAH: 2 1/4" DAC: 1 1/2". Cast slightly off. WEIGHT: 7 lbs. 0 oz. CONDITION: very fine, as completely reconditioned. Bbls. retain over 95% "best" quality blue. Action & locks have over 95% recolor. Nearly all engraving has been recut. Stocks have newer oil finish. Checkering correctly recut. There are some chips of wood missing along left side of trigger guard tang & there is a repaired crack in forend in front of iron. Bores are fine, shiny w/ some scattered frosting. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Locks are fine. A solid hammer gun w/ great dimensions, ready for the next Vintager's shoot. (20-218/MGM48). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
