GUN. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4". S# 19386 (Ca. 1878). The 30" fine damascus barrels are fitted with flat matted rib engraved "W.W. Greener 68 Haymarket London Winner of the London Gun Trials 1875 1877 & 1878" on unmatted portion of rib. Rear is engraved "Patent Treble" "No. 3081" "Wedge Fast". Barrel flats are stamped with 1977 Birmingham nitro reproofs for 2-3/4" chambers. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with pre-1890 Birmingham black powder proofs for 14M, 13B and "NOT FOR BALL". Case hardened action features crossbolt third fastener and double triggers. Front spring locks are fitted with nicely filed rebounding hammers. Action and lockplates are engraved with 80% coverage well cut small scroll. "W.W. Greener" is in banner on both lockplates. Action and hammers along with breech areas of barrels are filed in a manner similar to the Royal grade (50 Guineas); however Royal grade guns usually had hidden cross bolts. So this appears to be a 45 Guinea gun. Trigger guard, engraved with scroll on bow has S# on tang. High quality replacement straight grip buttstock of lightly figured and nicely veined European walnut measures 14-1/2" over Silver type pad and features well cut borderless flat top checkering at grip with ribbon toward toeline dividing an area of checkering that is more closely spaced. Stock is also made with semi-diamond hand and well shaped drop points. Matching full splinter forend is uncheckered and has Deeley release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .729. R .732. Restriction: L .026 (IMod). R .035 (Full). Wall thickness: L .032. R .023. STOCK: DAH: 2-3/16". DAC: 1-1/2"+. CAST: about 1/2" off. LOP: 14-1/2". WEIGHT: 8 lb. 9 oz. CONDITION: fine as completely refurbished. Barrels retaining nearly all of a good re-brown with fine definition to damascus pattern. Action retains nearly all of a best re-color hardening; engraving remaining clear. Newly made high quality stocks have a few minor handling marks in their original oil finish. Bores are bright and shiny without noted problems. Action is very tight with new hinge pin and crossbolt bushing. Locks are crisp. Mid bead is missing on barrel. A great old gun ready for another 100 years. (01-27279MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,000-,5000.
