VERSCHLUSS ACTION. Cal. 9.3 X 74R S# 18182. The 23 5/8" dovetailed barrels are fitted with full length matted rib holding one standing and one folding rear and silver bead front sights. A later longitudinally dovetailed scope base is also fitted. Tops of barrels are engraved "Tiroler-Waffenfabrik" "Johann Peterlongo, Innsbruch". Each barrel extends and expands into a flat locking ear at breech end. Left ear is engraved "MAMMUT" "VERSCHLUSS" above and below a portrait of a mammoths head. Left side is engraved "PATENTAMTL. GESCH." Barrel flats are stamped with Imperial German nitro proofs for 9mm (.360 groove diameter). Blued blitz action with non automatic safety and pin cocking indicators has unusual breech section with top lever retracting opposing Greener type cross bolts that engage holes in ears on barrels. Action also features double triggers (both set). Action is decorated with line borders which are counterpoint to exceptionally well carved deep relief animals on sides with roaring stag on left and Russian boar on right. These portraits are flanked by well cut oak leaves. Capped pistol grip buttstock of lightly figured European walnut measures 14 3/4" over 1" walnut lengthening piece with serrated butt. Stock features shadow line right hand cheekpiece, elongated drop points and point pattern checkering. Matching splinter forend with inlet horn tip has Deeley release. Rifle is fitted with good quality sling by Torel in original sling loops. CONDITION: good to fine as refinished. Barrels and action retain about 80% good quality re blue. Stocks with old oil finish have many marks and scratches; checkering is moderately worn. Bores appear to be very fine, but dirty. Action is tight; mechanically good. (23-2580/MGM).
