OFFICER’S SABER BY SAUERBIER. Overall length: 41". Blade length: 34 1/4”. Blade has a single wide fuller w/ a secondary fuller near the spine. The blade is etched over 19 1/2" w/ various patriotic & foliate motifs, including a large “U.S.”. There is an etched mark near the ricasso that reads “H. Sauerbier Newark N.J.”. Brass, semi-basket guard w/ cutout spread-wing eagle over “US” w/ a ribbon above that reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. Oak leaf & acorn decorated pommel. Triple wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard w/ heavily embellished drag. Suspension loops have a federal shield motif on one w/ a skull & crossbones on the other. Brass throat. CONDITION: blade shows some original factory polish w/ a few scattered spots of staining. Hilt is a bit loose w/ a dark overall patina. Leather & wire appear complete w/ minimal wear. Scabbard has an overall dark patina on both the iron & brass. (02-21182/BF). $800-1,100.
