BENFER. This relatively rare O/U has a 44 cal. rifled bbl. over a 60 cal. smooth bbl. NSN. The bbls. are 33 1/2" full oct. & the top bbl. is signed "AMOS BENFER 1880". The gun is a half stock as the curly maple stock ends partway up the bbl. The gun has dbl. set triggers, a 5" brass saddle plate & a brass cap box. Amos Benfer worked in Beavertown, Snyder County & relocated to Adams Township ca. 1880. His guns were normally very plain & he was a late gunsmith who died in 1916. This is one of the few Benfer guns marked w/ his full name & date. CONDITION: original condition throughout w/ no apparent repairs or alterations. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing.
