Cal. 55 Boyes. S# C6900. Bbl. 39". The original .55” MKI antitank rifle was developed in 1930 in Britain w/ one of the lead designers being Capt. Boys. The original code name for this rifle was “Stanchion” & because Capt. Boys passed shortly after development had been wrapped up, it was given his name out of respect. It is a top mounted mag. fed bolt action rifle designed w/ a heavy muzzle brake & recoiling bbl. used in conjunction w/ a heavily padded buttplate in an attempt to tame the massive forces while firing. The Boyes anti-tank rifle saw extensive use by British and Canadian forces during WW2, and was an effective weapon against light armored vehicles. This particular example has British proof marks and is dated 1940. Barrel number matches receiver. This weapon appears complete including muzzle break & monopod. Bolt operates smoothly in the action and is matching. Monopod adjustment works fluidly. Due to the center placement of the mag., the sights are extended far to the left side of the receiver & a cheekpiece has been added to aid in aiming. Bipod is micro adj. by turning w/ the support hand so the control hand never has to leave the action. Front sight is a hooded post w/ a rear peep sight. Overall length is 63". MAGS: 1-5 rd. metal. CONDITION: original finish is quite thin, illustrating a large amount of gentle gray patina w/ a few small spots of scale. The receiver and rails retain a large amount of original finish. The forward hand grip is very good with a 1/4" chip on the right front at the bottom. The rear handle is in good condition with some bruises and impressions, remaining very solid. The cheek rest is also in very good condition with some scratches and impressions, but remains structurally sound. The rubberized shoulder recoil pad is split at the top as is commonly found, but the rubber is still soft and pliable. Oil brush is intact inside oiler, bristles are still soft. Bore is surprisingly bright w/ sharp rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: Formerly part of collection of Carl "Bill" Morrison. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1566/JZ). CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
