DEALER SAMPLE (KEEPER) SMG. Cal. 9mm. S# 38218. Bbl. 10". Introduced in 1981, as an update to the Mpi69. The MPi69 SMG was developed by Steyr, designed Herr Stowasser in an effort to create a reliable gun without an expensive manufacturing process. It utilizes a stamped steel receiver w/ a plastic pistol grip & handguard and a cold forged barrel. It is an open bolt, blowback operated, select fire system that utilizes 2 different methods to determine operation; first, it has a cross slide safety that doubles as a selector. When pressed all the way in from the left to right, it is "safe" and can not fire in this position. When the safety is depressed all the way in from the right, through to the left, it is set to "Fire" and functions as fully automatic. If the operator desires to shoot only a single round, the trigger can be depressed only partially to the rear, where it will fire one round, returning to full auto capability by depressing the trigger fully to the rear. If only semiautomatic fire is desired, the safety can be pushed in from the right or the left, to the center position, where it will function only as a semiautomatic, regardless of how far the trigger is depressed. The charging mechanism of the MPi69 is combined w/ the front sling attachment point. To charge the firearm the front of the sling is simply pulled to the rear. Upon the bolt being opened, the spring loaded sling swivel simply returns to the front. The MPi81 utilizes a traditional charging handle & relocated the front sling swivel in front of the barrel nut. The MPi81 shoulder stock is a 4 position, collapsible wire design that locks securely in all positions. Parkerized finish on exposed metal surfaces. Front sight is a protected post. Dual aperture rear peep sight. Imported through Gun South Inc., Birmingham, AL. MAGS: 1 Steel 32 rd. CONDITION: original finish complete & consistent w/ some thinning in areas of mechanical intervention. Gentle patina on sights. Numbers matching on visibly numbered parts including frame, bolt & barrel nut. Bright bore w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand.
