OF HONOR. This is an exceedingly rare original US issue Space Medal of Honor in its original blue leatherette box featuring gold lettering that reads “CONGRESSIONAL SPACE MEDAL OF HONOR” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”. The set also contains a miniature medal, ribbon bar, and a lapel pin. The medal itself features an eagle atop a green enameled and gold wreath superimposed by a gold star and a dark blue enameled star on a light blue field with a central diamond. The miniature medal and the lapel pin are exactly the same as the neck order. The ribbon has a central red stripe with white, light blue, and dark blue stripes all edged in yellow. The diamonds at the center of the neck order, as well as the miniature medal and lapel pin, are authentic diamonds and have been tested as such. Only 28 of these medals have ever been issued, making it one of the rarest of all space associated awards. It is a civilian award that is recommended by the NASA Administrator and presented by the current President of the United States. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a ticket to the John F. Kennedy Space Center for the award ceremony of the first Congressional Space Medals of Honor by President Jimmy Carter. A parking pass, numbered “1671”, is also included for the President Carter Presentation Ceremony. CONDITION: medal shows no wear and is in as-issued condition. The medal presentation box shows light storage wear. (02-22643/BF). $6,000-9,000.
