NORMANDY. Captured in a bunker near Cherbourg by Louis P. Fournier, a CCM Seabee with the 146th battalion US Naval Construction Battalion. Chief Petty Officer Fournier was from Livermore Falls, ME. He made notations on the front and reverse of the chart, including where he landed on Utah Beach. Chief Fournier was able to rendezvous with his son Phil, an enlisted man in the USN, onshore not long after the landings. The map notates the location where he met with his son at Chateau of Mons, in St. Honorine. The family retained the frame chart with Phil receiving it from his father before his death where it remained until it was sold to the consignor at auction. The chart is in 1:150,000 scale and depicts the Channel/Northern Coast of France/Germany to FeCamp including the landing beaches from D-Day with channel depths. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: paperwork & copies of photos. CONDITION: overall very good with some light wrinkling and heavy creases from being stored for a long time. There are a few dark stains with the family lore stating that Chief Founier found the map alongside the coffee cup that created the stains and that the coffee cup was still warm. (02-26322/ZAL). NON-GUN. $400-600.
