RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 33990 (found on front receiver ring and bottom of bolt handle). Bbl. 24" tapered rnd. of Chrome Vanadium Steel with oval Belgian proof marks. Ramp mounted bead front sight with island mounted fixed U-notch rear sight. B. Nickel MARBURG/L 2 1/2 - 6x40mm E/ D gloss finished scope with post reticule on QD mounts. Scope retains it's original leather covers. Front scope base is bbl. band mounted. Rifle has spectacular Germanic style hand engraving. Front receiver ring features a silver inlaid bugling bull elk on the right side. Left side has silver inlaid buck and doe antelope. Silver inlays continue to the floorplate which features a wild boar and the trigger guard with a mountain goat. Balance of receiver, floorplate, trigger guard, breech end of bbl. and rear sight base have foliate scroll hand engraving with punch dot backgrounds and silver wire borders. Bolt knob has floral pattern hand engraving with a flattened and hand checkered underside. Bolt body and extractor have fine hand jeweling. Custom features include double set triggers and custom top tang sliding safety in addition to a low swing bolt safety. Monte Carlo cheekpiece walnut stock with fluted bakelite grip cap and white line spacer. Forearm and wrist have generous coverage of exquisite deep relief oak leaf hand carving with stippled backgrounds. LOP: 14 1/8" over a Pachmayr thin black rifle pad marked "LANDSBERG/ ROD & GUN CLUB/ GERMANY". A beautiful example of German craftsmanship on a fine rifle custom likely custom made for a serviceman stationed in Germany in the Post-WWII era. Inside of barrel channel has pencil marked name "Colonel Latch OLH 33990". CONDITION: fine, retaining over 98% fine custom blue. The stock finish shows a few small handling marks and spots of finish loss with mildew spotting. Hand engraving and carving are in fine condition retaining great detail. When the trigger set is pulled with either or both safety engaged the trigger produces a click but will not fire until the safeties are disengaged. The set trigger appears to be out of proper adjustment. Very good bright bore. Scope has bright optics. (25-4540/DS). CURIO. $5,000-8,000.
