FLINTLOCK RIFLE. Cal. 54. NSN. Bbl. 42" octagon measuring 7/8" across flats at muzzle. German silver blade rocky mountain front sight w/ fixed rear sight having a fine V notch. Top flat has an inlayed brass plate engraved "Alexander". Lockplate is engraved "SA". Stephen Alexander of Tucson, Arizona was a prolific & highly skilled gunsmith who built & restored high-end muzzle loading rifles. Steven passed on July 31st, 2023 at age 70. Double set triggers. Full length curly maple stock held by four brass keys. Brass fittings include a pierced segmented rectangular lid patch box, crescent buttplate, finger curl trigger guard, sideplate & nose cap. Fittings have floral & geometric hand engraving. Cheekpiece has a German silver oval plate engraved w/ an American eagle under thirteen stars. Other German silver fittings include wedge escutcheons w/ the rear escutcheon being 8-pointed stars. Tear drop points behind lock & sideplate have engraved German silver hearts. Areas around cheekpiece, wrist, top tang, lockplate, sideplate & thimble have ornate foliate relief carving. Ramrod channel is highlighted by incise carving. Hardwood ramrod is held by an engraved faceted brass thimble & 2 faceted brass pipes. WEIGHT: 8 lbs, 5 oz. CONDITION: metal has a pleasing light browned finish. Stock has very good finish. Sound lock & trigger. Bright near excellent bore. PROVENANCE: from the renowned collection of quality sporting arms from Lewis Drake together with inventory of Lewis Drake Associates. (01-26126/DS).
