, STOCK. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 21516. Bbl 5 1/2". This early, difficult-to-find, C96 Flatside has a fixed front sight, altered to present a bead profile, and a pinned rear sight graduated 1-10. Long extractor, single lug firing pin, large ring hammer, earliest type safety. Chamber with three line address. Full SN on left chamber flat. Crown/C/U on left side of barrel extension. Antler proof on right side. Unmarked frame except for the full serial on back strap. External numbers fully matched to the last few digits of the SN including the sight bar and cursor. Disassembly shows matching numbers on the floorplate, follower, transfer bar, sear, locking block, and firing pin. Grips could not be removed as screw escutcheon for threaded portion rotates freely within the hard rubber recess. Accompanied by an era correct shoulder stock, lid notched for the large ring, personalized with "J. RUDGE" on the hinge, lug SN "22969". CONDITION: 97%-98% bright original finish, including grip straps, with altered front sight as previously noted. Fire blued parts with age appropriate speckling and sharp edge wear. Most original straw remaining on trigger. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. VG stock with oil darkening and scattered handling dings, lid with small hairline crack in front of large ring recess and internal marring, hinge and lug in same general condition showing no touch up. Minimal wobble when attached to pistol. An extremely fine and attractive Flatside, even better when accompanied by the period stock! (22-3137/MLW). CURIO. $5,000-8,000.
