TRESTLE TABLE. Late 19th century, New York. The rectangular parquet top with reeded edge above the shell and foliate carved apron fitted with three aligned drawers joined to trestle supports carved with lion’s head molded edges centering a semi-nude female figure with outstretched arms within scrolling grape clusters and floral borders above a Satyr's mask, raised on paw feet. The ends are joined by a profusely carved foliate and grape cluster stretcher. Robert J. Horner opened in New York City in 1886. Horner's furniture is marked by heavily carved surfaces covered with griffins, gargoyles, cherubs, and gadrooning. SIZE: 31 1/2" h x 71" l x 35 1/2" w. CONDITION: generally good to very good.
