RIFLE. Cal. 22 Short. S# 804. The 1st Model 1890s featured a case colored solid frame action w/ pinned trigger guards. Approx. 15,500 solid frame rifles were produced. In 1893 the 2nd Model was introduced w/ the common takedown action. Bbl. 24 3/8" octagon, longer than the 24" bbls. of the 2nd & 3rd models. Blade front sight w/ white insert & flat top V notch rear sight. Tubular mag. Grooved walnut slide handle w/ straight grip stock having crescent steel buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter listing the following: “Rifle”, “22 Short”, “Received in the warehouse on February 23, 1891”, “Shipped from the warehouse on February 24, 1891”, “Returned and repaired on March 1, 1895, on June 28, 1904 on September 11, 1909”. CONDITION: very fine. Receiver retains a surprising 70% lightly faded original case coloring showing scratches, small dings & dark spotting. Buttplate has faded to a dark patina retaining traces of case coloring. Bbl. & mag. tube have over 70% dull lightly faded blue showing edge & slide wear. Original wood finish shows moderate wear w/ scattered scratches & marks. Bore is lightly pitted retaining intact rifling. (01-22959/DS). ANTIQUE. $10,000-15,000.
