This ejection seat is for the OV-1 Mohawk that was designed by Grumman and was originally equipped with ejection seats like this one, manufactured by Martin-Baker. Interestingly, the OV-1 Mohawk was equipped with large plexiglass overhead panels, which, according to plan, would be jettisoned prior to actuating the ejection seat. If the plexiglass canopy panels did not release, the seat was designed to penetrate the canopy during use. The seats originally had soft-pack parachutes, as were popular in the period. This example measures approx. 49" x 18" and is designated "MARTIN BAKER MK-J5DC EJECTION SEAT CAPABILITY 60 KNOTS MIN ON RUNWAY". This seat does not appear to have the original parachute and may be missing a few smaller parts and pieces. CONDITION: the seat could use a good cleaning and, as stated, is likely missing a few pieces. Its visual presence is unmistakable, and it could not fail to impress in a mancave or as the nucleus of an aviation collection. (02-22822/BF). $1,500-2,200.
