WITH LETTER & PHOTO. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-5/8". S# 84198. Parker letter indicates this gun was shipped on July 30, 1896 to Jno H. Lord of Hallowell, Maine. This gun has 28" twist barrels engraved "PARKER BROS MAKERS. MERIDEN CONN. TWIST" on matted top rib. Barrel flats are stamped with correct markings and frame size "1 1/2" is on lump. Case hardened action with automatic safety and double triggers is engraved in "P" style with sprays of scroll within line and geometric borders; "PARKER BROS" is on each side. S# is on trigger guard tang. Lightly stump figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/8" over Parker dogs head buttplate with spur. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip. German silver shield on toeline is engraved "WEBSTER GATCHELL" (Consignor has provided a photograph of a young man holding two dead rabbits that also pictures two shotguns; one a hammer gun; the other, definitely a Parker, purported to be this gun). MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .731. R .730. Restriction: L .028 (mod). R .004 (IC). Wall thickness: L .032. R .033. STOCK: DAH: 3-1/4". DAC: 1-13/16". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14-3/8". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 6 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Parker letter and old photo. CONDITION: fine to very fine. Barrels retaining about 90% original dramatic twist finish. Action retains about 60-70% original case hardening color; considerably silvered around bottom from normal hand wear. About 20% blue remains on trigger guard. Stocks retain over 90% original varnish with a good scattering of marks and areas of darkening. Checkering is lightly worn. Bores are bright and shiny without noted problems. Action is tight. Mechanically good. A pretty good antique PH Parker on a hard to find frame size. (01-26980/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
