WITH CASE. Cal. 52. NSN. The 10" swamped octagon barrels with gold lined touch holes are unmarked. Breech irons have integral rear sights. Locks with chamfered plates having rebated tails, are fitted with back sliding safetys that also lock frizzens, serpentine cocks, semi waterproof pans, bridled roller frizzens and feather springs with bulbous finials. "H. W. Mortimer" is at center of each lockplate, which are also engraved with double line borders and flags at rear. Triggers are set. Trigger guards have pineapple finials. European walnut stocks extend to muzzles, have checkered hooked bag grips and attach to barrels with two sidebolts without escutcheons. Ebony ramrods mount through iron pipes and thimbles. One ramrod has horn tip, the other a steel worm tail. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: guns are housed in a vintage dovetailed mahogany case with pivoting hook and key closure; lined in open weave green cloth. A reproduction Mortimer label is in lid. Case contains a copper bodied powder, ball and patch flask; round pewter oil bottle; brass and ebony loading rod; ebony handled turnscrew and an unmarked nutcracker type ball mould. CONDITION: fair to good. Barrels retaining a good quality rebrown over considerable heavy pitting that did not file out during refinish. Watered iron pattern is very fine. Lock of one gun is smooth gray patina with engraving clear, cock an old replacement with welded repair. Lock on the other gun has what appears to be original cock but lock is heavily pitted and cleaned to silver highlights. Trigger on that gun will set, the other pistol will not. Stocks show considerable wear and heavy use. Iron fittings deeply pitted with cleaned silver highlights. Bores are good. Locks and safetys are operable. Stock of one gun shows many cracks and loss of wood through barrel channel. Case probably an old reproduction is good. Interior cloth is good with stains and marks, but not enough to equal the amount of wear on these pistols. Label is artificially aged and stained. Accessories are fair to good. (01-23015/MGM). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
