BOXLOCK FLINT PISTOLS BY GRICE. Cal. 40. NSN. Nicely turned 2 1/4" bbls. have wrench lugs at bottoms. Steel boxlock flint actions have reinforced cocks and frizzens with internal springs. They are engraved "GRICE" on ribbons on left sides. Right sides are engraved with scrolls. Walnut bag grips have hallmarked silver grotesque face caps, and inlet scrolling wire decoration. Hallmarks are for Birmingham, Sterling, with maker's mark CF (Charles Freeth and date stamp "G" (1780). CONDITION: good. Iron parts with old cleaning to gray brown patina over considerable frosting. Grips have old oil finish silver nicely toned. Mechanically good. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-20563/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
