WINDSOR, VT. Cal. 50 RF. NSN. One of 1,000 made, this was the first bolt action metallic cartridge firearm accepted by the U.S. Government. 20” Barrel integral with action which features interrupted screw threads at rear with bolt opened by a ¼ turn of small bolt handle in conventional fashion. Sights are pivoting U notch for 2 distances & barleycorn front. Rear of action area is marked “PALMER” “Patent” “DEC 22, 1863”.Barrel fixed to stock with single band. Stock features steel carbine type buttplate. Triggerguard & saddle ring on left side. Inspector’s initials “MM” are stamped in 2 different fonts; one in script in an oval cartouche on left side. Lock dated “1865” on tail is marked “U.S.” “LAMSON & CO.” & “WINDSOR, VT”. On front of hammer. CONDITION: very fine. Barrel Retains over 80% original brown with some freckling & scratches. Lock retains most of it original case hardening color. Stock retains over 90% of its oil finish with a large number of light marks & dings. Triggerguard & buttplate retain most of their case color as well. Bore is bright & shiny. Mechanically fine. (01-21158/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,750-2,750.
