BOAT WOODEN AIRPLANE PROPELLER. This impressive propeller measures 104” in length with a total hub diameter of 13 1/4". The brass tips on the propeller blades measure 8 1/4" on the low side and 13” on the high side. The propeller is marked “USN 88X511 P7081 1 U (anchor) S” to one side of the hub, and the other side is marked “U (anchor) S 2 GP67662LH”. The hub itself has a single marking that reads “SE 3641565”, and there are 8 holes to secure the hub. The HS-1 was the workhorse plane of the US Navy during WWI. It was primarily used to carry out antisubmarine patrols from its bases in France beginning in June of 1918. The HS-1 enjoyed a long, useful life and remained in naval service until 1928. CONDITION: the propeller has a superb, deep, rich finish with only a few minor “battle scars” on one side of one of the blades. (02-22632/BF). $3,500-5,000.
