PERCUSSION MUSKET. Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 40". Model 1861 percussion musket, mfg. by Parkers' Snow & Co. Lockplate is marked with a patriotic eagle above "U.S.", followed by "PARKERS' SNOW & CO./ MERIDEN, CONN.", with "1864" marked at the rear. Top flat of bbl. is marked "1864", with "V" and "P" proofs above an eagle head proof marked on the left. Metal components are in-the-white. Wood buttstock exhibits an illegible cartouche on the left side flat. Blade front sight with flip-up rear sight. Iron ramrod is present. CONDITION: metal components exhibit oxidation overall, with arsenal markings remaining legible. Action functions appropriately when cycled by hand, with the hammer holding at both the half-cock and full-cock positions. Wood stock exhibits scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with some chipping present along the ramrod channel and right side of the forearm, with a crack that is present on the left side of the forearm at the nosecap, as well as a crack that stems from the buttplate on the right side of the butt.
