CONVERSION. Cal. 58 RF. NSN. Bbl. 39". Breechloading conversion of an 1861 style Civil War musket patented by George & William Miller. Rifle has an upward lifting breechblock & takes a 58 rimfire round. Altered by Meridian Mfg. Co. between 1865-1867. Approx. 2000 muskets altered to breechloading configuration. Maryland & New York militias used these conversions in limited numbers. Lock has Parker's Snow & US eagle markings. Lock also dated 1863. Top of breech marked, "W.H. & G.W. MILLER PATENT MAY 23 1865" & "MERIDEN MANFG. CO. MERIDEN CONN". Breech numbered "114". Dual aperture folding rear sight. Blade front sight. Walnut stock w/ three bands & ramrod. CONDITION: walnut stock shows scattered dings, handling marks, some scrapes from band removal & chips in ramrod channel. Breech & rear sight retain much of their dull blue finish w/ some fading & oxidation staining most notably on rear sight. Bright surfaces have been cleaned w/ some scattered oxidation Good bore w/ some frosting. (01-21740/MJC). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
