Ruler is 12 1/16" long, beveled on 1 edge & is stated to be made from wood saved from The Frigate Constitution. Ruler is fitted in neat handmade hinged storage case measuring approx. 13 3/8" X 2 1/8" X 1 1/2" & has brass hinges & hook. Top cover of case & ruler have sm. inletted pieces of wood identified w/ numbers & has original folded covered notebook w/ handwritten notes explaining the origin of each inlay. The information in the notebook has been copied in a more legible form in a 3 ring binder. Notable examples of the inlay materials include The Frigate Constitution, Andersonville Prison Stockade, The Old Chain Bridge across the Potomac River, is from the rail Abraham Lincoln split for the fence around his cabin in 1830. Notebook also contains 4 vintage colored postcards of Concord Bridge & other Massachusetts views. CONDITION: ruler is in very good condition. The inlays are easily visible & the stamped numbers are legible. The case has a pleasing mellowed aged appearance w/ light wear & handling marks. Notebook has notable insect damage on top corner & light edge wear. (02-15641/RW). $800-1,200.
