Cal. 43 Spanish. S# 75069. Bbl. 33". Blade front sight. Ladder rear sight graduated to 1300yds. Rear of bbl. marked with a German crown "V" proof. Rifle was likely destined for France during the Franco-German War of 1870-1871. 39,000 rifles were ordered by the French but only 33,000 actually delivered. Left side of action has Peabody Patent markings. Case colored action. Walnut stock set with bottom mounted sling swivels & oval "WC" inspection stamp. Replacement ramrod present. CONDITION: stock set shows scattered finish wear, some chipping in ramrod channel, dings, scratches & handling marks. Metal is mostly a dull gray patina with traces of case colors on action, overall old oxidation, some light tool marks on rear of bbl. & scattered handling wear. Action appears functional when hand cycled. Bore shows scattered oxidation & pitting but visible rifling. (01-27841/MJC). ANTIQUE. $800-1200.
