RIFLE. Cal. 44-100. S# 335. Bbl. 32" octagon to round. Wind-Gauge front sight. Long range Vernier tang sight is numbered to the rifle w/ second mounting base at heel of stock. Case colored Martini style action w/ straight line borders & highlights of scroll engraving. Left side is engraved "Creedmoor". Right side is engraved "Peabody-Martini / Patents". Trigger is checkered. Steel tipped walnut forearm & pistol grip stock have hand checkering. LOP: 14 1/8" steel shotgun buttplate. WEIGHT: 10 lbs, 2.8 ozs. Estimated quantity of a few thousand of all types mfg. by Providence Tool Co., 1860s-1880s. CONDITION: very fine. Bbl. retains over 95% blue showing light edge wear. Action has over 90% lightly faded case colors. Wood has good finish & checkering showing numerous marks & small dents. Bore has slightly darkened appearance retaining strong rifling.
