TRAPDOOR SINGLE SHOT MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 510401. Bbl. 32".Receiver mfg. in 1891. Rifle is marked with "NGP" on the left side of the forend, top of the wrist, and at the buttplate tang, indicating service with the Pennsylvania National Guard. Marked additionally on and ahead of buttplate tang "K2" and "13." Buffington rear sight marked "R" graduated to 1,400 yards. Blade front sight. Rifle is fitted with a 35 1/2" rod bayonet. Breech block marked "US / MODEL / 1884." Bbl. is marked on top left over chamber with "V / P / eagle / P". Flat lockplate with spread eagle and "US / SPRINGFIELD". Walnut stock with two bands retained by springs. One-piece trigger guard. Stock is marked in addition to the "NGP" with legible boxed "SWP / 1891" marking. Marked at belly of stock with encircled script "P." CONDITION: stock has a large degree of its original finish with light wear and scattered handling marks throughout. Wrist has a small hole drilled vertically on top. Metal has traces of original blue and case colors turning overall gray and patina with light wear. Bbl. is shiny with scattered, very fine pitting while retaining sharp lands. (01-25580/RW). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
