THE HENRY FAMILY OF SALISBURY, PENNSYLVANIA. Cal. 61 Smooth Bore. NSN. Bbl. 49 1/4" oct. to rnd. is fitted w/ U notch rear & brass bead front sights. No bbl. signature is found. Handmade flintlock w/ raised chamfered plate & file decorated tail, has serpentine cock, inset faceted pan, bridled frizzen. File decorated feather spring w/ finial having teat. Full length stock of dramatically striped curly maple extends to muzzle w/ brass cap & attaches to bbl. w/ 4 sliding side bolts. Stock is brass mounted. Relatively simple patchbox w/ ball finial, has release in crescent of buttplate w/ 4 1/2" return. Trigger guard has grip spur. Side plate is filed in OG fashion at top & has some line border engraving matching style found on patchbox & oval plate above simple fluted sm. cheekpiece. A rnd. silver escutcheon is at top of grip. New hardwood ramrod is held by 3 brass pipes & matching thimble. CONDITION: good w/ repairs. Bbl. & lock w/ deep brown pitted patina. Wood retains most of its original finish w/ attractive hand wear at grip & forend. Brass very nicely toned. Rifle has seen extensive repairs in action area. Bbl. & lock are in original flint configuration. An attractive but simple Kentucky rifle. Rusty bore. Lock will not cock. (01-20141/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
