MASS. Cal. 41. NSN. Marshall Tidd of Woburn, Mass was a gunsmith that started around the early 1820's continued through the Civil War. Bbl. 31" oct. having holes for bullet starter & 1.2" across flats. Right bottom side flat marked "HITCHCOCK & MUZZ". Bottom of bbl. has 3 brazed on ramrod pipes holding brass tipped wooden ramrod; 1 pipe detached. Globe post front sight, dovetail for rear sight, & lollipop style tang sight. Hooked breech. Hammer action has takedown screw on bottom & drilled & tapped for receiver sight on left side. Finger curl triggerguard. Walnut stock w/ crescent buttplate & circular patchbox on right side. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: bullet starter assembly, w/ consignor notes & photos of Marshall Tidd's grave. 28" cal;. 16 Ga. oct. bbl. w/ blade front sight. Brown finish w/ 3 ramrod pipes & brass tipped wooden ramrod. Bottom left flat marked "2 / 58". Replacement nipple. Bbl. has fair brown fading to gray patina w/ edge wear & numerous strike marks & impressions. Dark pitted bore. CONDITION: metal has faded blue finish appearing mostly brown/gray showing edge wear, spots of oxidation, pitting & impressions throughout. Good wood varnish w/ impressions, gouges that break varnish & wear areas. Replacement nipple. Very good bore w/ sharp rifling. (01-22284/MD). ANTIQUE. $500-1,000.
