I. HOLLIS & SONS. Cal. 577. NSN. The 36" octagon to round barrel has Birmingham proofs and "25" on upper left flat of breech end. Front spring lock with round bodied percussion hammer is marked "I. Hollis & Sons" at center and with Hollis monogram within legend "MAKERS TO HER MAJESTY'S WAR DEPARTMENT" at rear. Brass buttplate is affixed with five screws. Trigger is of medium size and trigger guard has deep bow. Elmwood handrail type stock extends to muzzle with sheet brass cap. Moldings are around barrel tang, lock and brass coiled sea serpent sideplate held by three large screws. Oak ramrod with brass tip mounts through two multi ring brass pipes and simple hole as thimble. CONDITION: good. Iron parts exhibit overall brown patina. Stock retains most of its original finish with many marks and scratches. Dark rusted bore. Lock is operable but does not have half cock notch. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E.
