PICTURED IN BOOK. Cal. 45. NSN. Bbl. 29-1/4" full oct. signed. This underhammer percussion rifle is fitted w/ a blade front sight & an adj. buckhorn sight, both dovetail mounted. The top flat of the bbl. is stamped w/ a custom dye: "A.COLBEE". The top tang: "SMITH'S / IMPROVED / PATENT / STUD / LOCK" in 5 lines & the top of the buttplate is stamped w/ number "5". The stock is maple & all the furniture including the trigger guard, buttplate, toeplate, patch box, & escutcheons are brass. This very gun is pictured in "Vermont's Gunsmiths & Gunmakers to 1900" by Harry Phillips & Terry Tyler on page 71. CONDITION: ramrod pipes are missing, as is an inlay that had three relief stars on the butt. (01-21160/RG). ANTIQUE. $500-1200.
