HOLSTER. The Rock Island Arsenal made 300 holsters for the Colt M1900 test pistols between 1900-1901. This example, arguably the best one known, is well documented and photographed in the book "U.S. Military Holsters and Related Accoutrements" by Edward Scott Meadows, and pictured, both sides, on page 315. Historical images show the same holster as worn by U.S. Army officers and cavalry troopers on page 316 & 317. A military accessory, perfect for the advanced martial collector, that is virtually never offered for sale. The holster is of black leather and has a height, including belt loop, of 10". "U.S." is deeply embossed on the flap, just below the retaining stud are the initials "J.E.N.". The belt loop is marked "ROCK ISLAND/ ARSENAL/ E.H.S.". Retention is by a single solid brass stud. Nosecap plug made with a central hole for drainage. CONDITION: excellent original condition as befitting a holster that is now nearly 125 years old and has been tested by the military. Light age related cracking; with minimal crazing limited to area around retention stud. A phenomenal accessory by any metric! PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows. (02-22115/LMA). $4,000-6,000.
