ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 8x60R. S# E727. Numbers match on buttstock, bbl. & receiver. Bbl. 32 1/4". Ladder rear sight graduated to 2,200 meters. Inverted V front sight. Receiver is marked on left front side w/ "OE.W.F.G. STEYR" & "1886". Left rear side is marked "M.1886". Bayonet lug & cleaning rod are present. Bottom swivels. Rear of trigger guard forms hand grip. Walnut stock set. Buttstock is marked on right & left sides w/ very faint circular acceptance marks. Forend has 3 bands. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 18 1/2" fullered blade bayonet. Back of blade is marked in script "STEYR 1886". These bayonets are the Portuguese Model 1885 & were originally designed for the Guedes rifle, but were later utilized on the Kropatschek rifles. Bayonet has bright metal turning gray & patina w/ scattered spots of light oxidation. Grips are well-worn w/ chipping & staining w/ small cracks. Steel scabbard has turned overall gray in patina w/ oxidation & very fine pitting. CONDITION: stock set has worn original finish w/ staining & numerous handling marks. Grip has small crack behind receiver tang. Metal turning gray & patina w/ traces of blue. Thinning, wear & very light oxidation. Bore has dark grooves w/ fine pitting & oxidation w/ moderately worn lands. (01-26083/RW). ANTIQUE. $500-750.
