NATIONALE HIGH POWER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 12153. Bbl. 4 5/8". 1 of only 2,400 High Power semi-automatic pistols (S# range: 11,000-15,000) mfg. by Fabrique Nationale under contract for Finland. According to "FN Browning Pistols" by Anthony Vanderlinden, only approx. 40-50% of the Finnish army High Powers were marked with a boxed "SA" property mark, with commissioned officers pistols and the majority of Finnish air force pistols remaining unmarked. This example, just 8 S#s away from the Finnish High Power listed on page 724, is devoid of any Finnish proofs, save for a small poorly stamped "N6" Finnish inspector proof on the right side of the forward trigger guard web, likely denoting either Finnish air force issue or issue to a Finnish army commissioned officer. It is important to note that many of the Finnish army issued High Powers exhibit notable wear from extensive use, with many of the air force pistols having survived in relatively high condition, such as this example. The left side of the slide is marked "FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE/ HERSTAL BELGIQUE/ BROWNING'S PATENT DEPOSE". Left side of the frame, slide, and right side of the bbl. exhibit Belgian commercial proofs. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the bbl., which is polished in-the-white. Slotted frame is fitted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, which feature red anti-moisture barrier paint on the interior of the panels. Grips are possibly replacements, with wear not being consistent with the remainder of the pistol, and with the red paint on the interiors possibly having been reapplied. Thumbprint slide features a dovetailed blade front sight, with a tangent V-notch rear sight, graduated 50-500. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, slide, and bbl. MAGS: 2 blue 13-rd., with split tail floorplates. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: generic black polymer hard case. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting light to mild wear (primarily on edges), scattered superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots of light surface oxidation overall. Front grip strap exhibits wear and thinning that shows through to a gray patina, with light to mild surface oxidation present overall, that is also present on the rear grip strap. Bbl. exhibits some light oxidative etching on the left side of the chamber. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips retain traces of their original varnish finish, but are otherwise excellent overall. A scarce and high condition example of a possibly Finnish air force issued FN High Power pistol. (25-2029/MLW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
