Overall length: 37". Blade length: 31 1/8". Single fullered blade w/ etched decoration throughout 2/3 of the blade including a panel w/ “U.S.M.C.”. Etched near the ricasso are the words, “W.H. HORSTMANN & SONS PHILADELPHIA”. Gilded brass hilt. Wire wrapped leather grip. No scabbard. This “1850” style Marine Corps sword can be dated to the regulations of 1875 when NCOs were authorized to carry this sword w/ a leather wrapped, rather than fish skin grip. The earlier fish skin grip was regulation for Marine officers from 1859 to 1875. CONDITION: blade is quite nice w/ areas of original factory polish. The hilt retains traces of original gilded finish. The leather grip is quite worn but present & the wire is complete. (02-16605/BF). $300-500.
