PISTOL WITH STOCK & HARNESS. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 69274. Bbl. 4". Originally mfg. by Mauser as a standard-configuration C96 "Red 9" semi-automatic pistol, this example was retained and subsequently converted to be in accordance with the Treaty of Versailles. Arsenal modifications include the shortening of the bbl. and the replacement of the rear tangent sight with a fixed "V" notch sight. The top flat of the faceted breech is stamped "1920" next to Mauser's mfg. information, with the S# marked on the left quarter flat, a double crown "U" proof marked on the left flat, and an Imperial German military acceptance proof stamped on the right flat. Right side of the frame is marked with Mauser's mfg. information. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish, which was likely applied at the time of reworking. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood red "9" grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, floorplate, lock frame, sear, hammer, bbl./bbl. extension, bolt, bolt stop, as well as the grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: non-matching shoulder stock with a brown leather harness marked "C. HOLSTE&Co./ MUNCHEN/ 1917" on the rear, containing a cleaning rod and spare follower spring. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some wear and thinning that shows through to gray patina, with some scattered handling marks overall. Bolt and hammer exhibit spots of age-related discoloration. Bright bore, exhibiting light pitting and retaining good rifling throughout. Grips exhibit some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage overall. Stock shows scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, with some wear to the varnish overall. Harness exhibits wear with age-related cracking and crazing overall, with a hole present at the stock lug area and some losses to the stitching at the toe. PROVENANCE: the collection of Curtis H.
