This powder horn measures approx. 9” in length and is engraved “ASA BROWN HIS HORN MADE 1832 3Rd OHIO DRAGOONS.” The horn is further engraved with a cannon, a stack of six cannonballs, two plants, a federal shield, a spray of arms with a US flag, and the front façade of a house showing five windows over four with a central door. The wooden butt plug has an impressed design using letter stamps and a central decoration that appears to be a small gear. There is a modern rawhide hanging strap attached. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copies of information relating to Asa Brown and his service in the 3rd Ohio Dragoons, as well as the United States Mounted Rangers. There is a copy of a print of Asa Brown’s house that is very similar to the engraving on the powder horn. A book titled “The United States Mounted Ranger Battalion, 1832-1833” by Otis E. Young is also included. CONDITION: horn shows significant wear with notable insect damage. (02-23118/BF). $1,000-1,500.
