Cal. 222 Rem. S# 102189. Bbl. 24". Model 70 bolt action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1949. Originally chambered in .22 Hornet, this example was later converted to .222 Remington. Left side of the bbl. is marked with Winchester's mfg. information, followed by the Winchester trademark logo, model designation, and the former caliber designation, with the new caliber designation stamped at the breech. Left side of receiver is marked with the Winchester trademark logo on the receiver wall, with the S# marked on the right side of the chamber. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Checkered wood pistol grip buttstock with flat checkered steel buttplate. Trigger is fitted with a trigger shoe. Top of receiver has been drilled and tapped with a scope mount, with the left side of the receiver also having been drilled and tapped. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning, with scattered superficial handling marks present overall. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of mild pitting and retaining well defined rifling throughout. Stock exhibits scattered marks and dings from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (24-1796/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
