LUXEMBORG CONTRACT FN MODEL D . Cal. 30-06. S# 229. Bbl. 25" over flash hider. Introduced in 1932, the FN Model D was the last version of the legendary Browning Automatic Rifle. It boasts a detachable barrel & eased takedown due to a hinged butt stock, making the rear of the receiver accessible. This particular example was manufactured in Belgium for sale to Luxembourg, and marked as such w/ the "AL" marking on the top front of the receiver. Unlike the traditional BAR, the FN Model D has a pistol grip, similar in aesthetics to the Colt Monitor. Above the pistol grip is the safety / selector marked "M - R - S". The internal design utilizes a rate reducer allowing full auto function at a slower cyclic rate. The "S" position is "Safe", the "R" position is "Slow" & the "S" position is "Fast". Belgium proof marks on left side of receiver. Matte parkerized finish on exposed metal surfaces. 2 piece wooden forend w/ matching 2 piece pistol grip panels & shoulder stock w/ folding shoulder rest. Shoulder stock also inlet for rear mounted monopod. Serial number on trigger group "229" matches receiver number. Top mounted carry handle that assists w/ barrel changes. Protected blade front sight. Rear peep sight adjustable from 100 meters to 1500 meters. Detachable barrel has 30 cooling fins forward of chamber. Barrel marked w/ British & Belgian proof marks. MAGS: 7 steel 20 rd. CONDITION: Finish complete & consistent w/ very little outward sign of use. Finish coverage unusually complete w/ some light thinning in areas of mechanical intervention & on some high spots. Bipod & front gas port absent as well as rear right forend screw. Wood furniture is in nice condition but shoulder stock has a few 3.5" hairline cracks that don't appear to have any structural significance. Bore is bright w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PRE-86 DEALER SAMPLE (KEEPER). NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION.
